Meet the Giants Who Inspired Our Glass
We invite you to explore our tribute to the legends

A drink of rebellion and strength
Inspiration: The Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Story: This bold, multi-layered cocktail represents the riot that started a revolution. The dark rum base is the foundation of oppression, shaken with the citrus of anger, and sweetened with the syrup of solidarity. Topped with a splash of crimson grenadine that slowly rises like the dawn of a new era, it’s a tribute to the brave drag queens, trans women, and gay youth who fought back.
How it is served: Served in a tall Collins glass with a rainbow flag pick. The red grenadine “riots” through the golden liquid.
Recipe: Dark rum, fresh lime juice, pineapple juice, a dash of grenadine. Shaken and strained over ice.

Elegant, classic, and unapologetically queer
Inspiration: The poet Sappho of Lesbos and the secret language of violets.
Story: In the 1920s and 30s, giving violets was a subtle, romantic gesture between women. This cocktail, with its beautiful floral hue and elegant presentation, is a nod to that hidden history of lesbian love. It’s sophisticated, fragrant, and speaks of a love that once dared not speak its name.
How it is served: served in a coupe glass with a crystallized violet flower garnish.
Recipe: Gin, Crème de Violette, fresh lemon juice, egg white (for a silky foam). Dry shaken, then shaken with ice for a perfect frothy head.

A drink of hope and community
Inspiration: Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California.
Story: Harvey believed in the power of hope. This cocktail is bright, optimistic, and built to be shared. Its creamy, dreamy texture and sunny color represent the “Hope” he gave to a generation. A portion of the proceeds from this drink goes to a local LGBTQ+ youth charity, continuing his legacy.
How it is served: Served in a highball glass, creamy and bright yellow
Recipe: Vanilla vodka, Galliano, fresh orange juice, and a splash of cream. Shaken vigorously and served over ice

Transforming a symbol of hate into one of pride and power
Inspiration: The reclamation of the pink triangle, used to identify gay men in Nazi concentration camps
Story: This cocktail is a powerful act of reclamation. It is unapologetically pink, boldly tart, and incredibly strong. It honors those who suffered and celebrates the community’s resilience in turning a symbol of persecution into a global emblem of pride and identity.
How it is served: Served “up” in a martini glass, strikingly pink and clear, with a single, sharp lemon twist
Recipe: Pink Gin (gin infused with strawberries or a dash of Angostura bitters for a pink hue), Cointreau, fresh lime juice

A glittering tribute to the freedom of the dance floor
Inspiration: The 1970s disco era, where gay clubs like Studio 54 became sanctuaries of freedom and self-expression
Story: This drink is pure, shimmering escapism. It captures the energy, the glitter, and the unbridled joy of a time when the gay community found liberation under the mirror ball. It’s sweet, sparkling, and impossible to ignore
How it is served: Served in a champagne flute, bubbling and golden, with a sprinkle of edible gold glitter on top
Recipe: Vodka, peach schnapps, topped with Prosecco or sparkling wine. Garnished with a edible glitter rim

A sharp, potent, and necessary wake-up call
Inspiration: The AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP) and their fierce activism during the AIDS crisis
Story: This cocktail is not meant to be easy. It’s a complex, sharp, and potent mix that demands your attention, much like the activists of ACT UP. The bold, almost medicinal flavors of herbal liqueur are a tribute to the fight for healthcare and recognition
How it is served: Served in a rocks glass with one large ice cube. A stark, dark amber liquid with a expressed lemon peel over the top
Recipe: Bourbon, Fernet-Branca, fresh lemon juice, honey syrup

A celebration of vibrant, revolutionary joy
Inspiration: Marsha P. Johnson, the iconic Black trans rights activist and a central figure in the Stonewall uprising
Story: Known for her vibrant spirit and wearing crowns of fresh flowers, this cocktail is as colorful and full of life as Marsha was. It’s a sweet, fruity, and celebratory drink that honors her immense contribution to the community she called “family”
How it is served: Served in a hurricane glass, layered with red and blue liqueurs over ice, topped with tropical fruit and a bright edible flower
Recipe: Light rum, blue Curaçao, raspberry liqueur, pineapple juice, and a squeeze of lime

A floral, feminist, and fiercely delicious statement
Inspiration: The 1970s lesbian feminist group who reclaimed the derogatory term “lavender menace
Story: This cocktail is a direct response to those who would dismiss or ridicule. It is unashamedly floral, perfectly balanced between sweet and dry, and showcases the complexity and strength of its primary flavor. It’s for anyone who has been told they are too much
How it is served: Served in a coupe glass with a mist of lavender spray over the top and a sprig of fresh lavender
Recipe: Lavender-infused gin, St. Germain (Elderflower liqueur), fresh lemon juice

The original pride flag in a glass
Inspiration: Gilbert Baker, the artist and activist who created the Rainbow Pride Flag in 1978
Story: This is the ultimate shareable cocktail for The HideAway. It’s a vibrant, layered rainbow in a glass, representing the eight original colors of Baker’s flag: pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic, blue for serenity, and violet for spirit
How it is served: A stunning, clear glass mug filled with ice, with careful layers of differently colored syrups or liqueurs. Served with several straws to share.
Recipe: A “skittle” shot-style drink where guests pour their preferred flavored vodka over the ice to mix the colors. (e.g., Raspberry, Orange, Pineapple, Apple, Blueberry, and Grape vodkas)
A crisp, brilliant, and bittersweet classic
Inspiration: Alan Turing, the brilliant mathematician and codebreaker who was later persecuted for being gay
Story: This cocktail is a refined, classic, and perfectly balanced sip, representing Turing’s genius. The single, cyanide-laced apple that took his life is represented by a single, perfect apple slice garnish, making the drink a poignant and memorable tribute to a lost hero
How it is served: Served in a Nick & Nora glass, crystal clear, with a thin, vertical slice of green apple as a garnish
Recipe: London Dry Gin, Lillet Blanc, a dash of Absinthe. Stirred until perfectly chilled and strained
